Well, what am I painting around the house today?
My bedroom dresser.
It was kind of driving me crazy with its pink matte finish and it really needed a cheerful pick me up.
So, for some paint ideas, I headed over to Pinterest for inspiration and came across a little dresser with multiple-colored drawers.
I thought, “Hey, that’s kind of fun!”
And considering I already have a few clown-inspired accents in my master bathroom and bedroom; a mismatched dresser might actually be cute.
I grabbed a screenshot on my iPhone as a reminder, which Pinterest probably wouldn’t approve that I didn’t pin it and took a screenshot instead, but some days, with all the to-dos running through my head, grabbing a screenshot for a quick color reference is just so much easier.
You can see my screenshot in the image below; it gave me the inspiration I needed to plan my own version without spending a fortune.

THE DRESSER BEFORE AND AFTER
Originally the bedroom dresser was painted with Rust-Oleum blush pink chalk paint, but I honestly hated the finish.
The matte look felt kind of blah and just didn’t bring the room to life.
Unfortunately, we also use this dresser to hold our large TV.
I know some of you aren’t fans of a TV in the bedroom, but honestly, when we actually take time to watch a movie or binge a series, it’s convenient to have it here.
So, as real life goes, this bedroom has a TV on the dresser, maybe we’ll fix that someday, maybe we won’t.
Here's a look at the dresser before.
Now, because the drawers aren’t that big, and I wasn’t painting the insides, they’re staying the original wood tone, I really didn’t need much paint, and that’s when I thought, “Hmm… craft paint!”
YES!! Cheap, cheap craft paint!
I’m talking Apple Barrel craft paint, which isn’t my favorite because it’s watery and thin but the colors I had on hand worked perfectly for this project.
Each drawer took three coats of paint to get solid coverage, which was a little time-consuming, but the colors turned out exactly how I wanted.
For the dresser base, I used leftover sage green paint from my entry closet makeover, because you know I’m all about reusing what I’ve got!
Since the craft paint was matte, I finished the dresser with a coat of spray varnish for a little bit of shine.
I like how it turned out!
The drawers have just enough pop, and the base color ties everything together with the rest of my bedroom and even blends nicely into the master bath.
Now, I chose a color combo that works in my bedroom but imagine all the other possibilities!
You could mix and match any colors you love for a fun, simple way to add a pop of color and a little cheer to any room.
